Victory in Europe (VE) Day is marked on 8 May each year to remember the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945. It was a time when people across Britain and Europe came together to celebrate peace after many years of loss, separation, and sacrifice.
At School, VE Day provides a meaningful opportunity for our pupils to reflect on the experiences of people in the past that were affected by the Second World War and to understand the importance of peace following conflict. Through age‑appropriate learning and discussion, our pupils develop respect, empathy, and appreciation of resilience and a deeper understanding of our history. This supports pupils’ personal development and reinforces British Values, particularly respect, tolerance, and an understanding of how communities come together in challenging times.
